Choose how many squares fit in an inch, set the line color and weight, decide whether the sheet gets a margin border, and print it on US Letter or A4 in portrait or landscape. Squares per inch, and which to pick
Four or five squares per inch gives large cells for younger students, quick charts, and drafting where you write inside each square. Eight and ten pack the grid tighter for detailed plots, fine graphs, and engineering work. Five per inch is the common all-purpose choice if you are undecided.
Color, weight, and margins
A light gray grid stays quiet under pencil and pen; blue and green read as classic graph paper; black is boldest and survives a photocopy. Thin lines suit the denser grids and thicker lines suit the large ones. Turn the margin border on for a clean edge to write up to, or leave it off to run the grid to the paper's edge.
Printing it true to size
In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% or “Actual size.” That is the one setting that keeps each square a real fraction of an inch; “Fit to page” rescales the sheet and the measurement no longer holds. Plain copy paper works for everyday use, and heavier paper stands up to repeated erasing.
